BIMLIPATAM, a town of British India, in the Vizagapatam district of Madras, on the sea-coast 18m. north-east of Vizagapa tam, and 16m. from a station on the Bengal-Nagpur railway. Pop. (1931) 9,629. It was formerly a Dutch factory and is now the principal port of the district. The anchorage is an open road stead protected to some extent by headlands with a lighthouse at Santapalli. Trade is coastal, the foreign trade having declined since the World War. There is regular coolie traffic with Rangoon. The principal exports are oil-seeds and jute. Ships lie a mile off shore.
