BOCAS DEL TORO, a town, province, island and bay on the northern coast of the republic of Panama. The population of the town is about 1 o,000, the chief industry of the region being the growing of bananas which are raised or bought by a large American fruit company for consumption in the eastern United States and Europe. The town is located on the island of the same name at one of the entrances of Chiriqui lagoon, 90 nautical m. from Port Limon, Costa Rica, and 140 nautical m. from Colon, Panama.
