BONHAM, a city in the north-eastern part of Texas, U.S.A., 14m. S. of the Red river and 62m. N.N.E. of Dallas: the county seat of Fannin county. It is served by the Texas and Pacific and the Denison, Bonham and New Orleans railways. The population in 1920 was 6,008, and in 193o it was 5,655. Corn and cotton are the leading crops of the district. The city has a large cotton mill, cotton gins, flour and cotton-seed oil mills, and a furniture factory. The first settlement was made in 1836. The town was incorporated in 185o, and was named after J. B. Bonham of South Carolina, who was killed in the Alamo.
