BORMIO, a town, Italy, province of Sondrio, 412m. N.E. of Sondrio. Pop. (1931), 2,316. It is in the Valtellina (the valley of the Adda), 4,o2oft. above sea-level, at the foot of the Stelvio pass, and was of military importance in the middle ages. It con tains interesting churches and picturesque houses and towers.
The baths of Bormio (Aquae Bormiae), 21T1. farther up the valley, are mentioned by Cassiodorus, secretary of Theodoric, and are much frequented.
