BERIOT, CHARLES AUGUSTE DE Belgian violinist and composer, was born at Louvain, Feb. 20, 1802, and died at Brussels, April 8, 187o. Although not definitely a pupil of Viotti or Baillot he was much influenced by both. He played in the principal musical centres of Europe, and held appointments at the courts of Belgium and France. From to 1852 he was violin professor at the Brussels conservatoire.
