BLACKBURN, HELEN (1842-19°3), British suffragist, was born at Knightstown, Valencia Island, Ireland, on May 25, 1842, the daughter of Bewicke Blackburn (1811-1897), a well known engineer, who settled in London in about 1859. Helen Blackburn was secretary of the central committee of the Na tional Society for the Promotion of Women's Suffrage from 1874— 95; sole editor of The Englishwoman's Review from 1881-9o, and author of Women's Suffrage: a Record of the Movement in the British Isles 0902), which is the standard work on the sub ject. She left her library on questions connected with women to Girton college, Cambridge, England.
