BOELLMANN, LEON (1862-1897), French composer, was born at Ensisheim, Alsace, Sept. 25, 1862, and died in Paris Oct. 11, 1897. He studied at the Ecole de musique religieuse in Paris and became organist at the church of St. Vincent de Paul, Paris. He composed some works for the organ, also church and chamber music. His best-known work is the Variations Sym phoniques for violoncello and orchestra.
