BIBAUD, MICHEL (1782-1857), Canadian historian, was born at Cote des Neiges, Montreal, and educated at the College de Montreal. His Histoire de Canada (3 vols., 183 7) ; deal ing with Canadian history from its origins up to 1877, was pro English and bureaucratic in tendency, thereby earning the condem nation of the French-Canadian public for whom it was written. Bibaud was the first French historian of Canada; he also wrote some satiric verse.
