BOULE, PIERRE MARCELIN (1861— ), French scientist, was born Jan. I 1861, at Montsalvy. Educated at Tou louse, he became assistant professor of geology at Clermont Ferrand, and devoted himself to the study of palaeontology. He became a member of the commissions on historical monuments and the geological map of France and was also president of the French Geological Society and of the French Archaeological Institute. Later he became director of the Institute of Human Palaeontology. Among his many works are Le plateau de Lan nemezan (1895) , Les volcans de la France centrale (1900), Les grottes de Grimaldi (1906-19) and Les hommes fossiles (1923).
