BOUCHE FERMEE, A, musical term signifying singing without words with closed, or nearly closed, mouth, the result being an inarticulate humming or buzzing. Formerly resorted to mainly for the purpose of amusing effects in humorous pieces, the device has more recently been employed with increasing fre quency in quite serious works by modern composers.
