BRAZIER, a metal recep tacle for holding burning coals or charcoal, much used in southern Europe and the East for warming rooms (from the Fr. brasier, which comes from braise, hot charcoal). Braziers are often ele gant in form, and highly artistic in ornamentation, with chased or embossed feet and decorated ex teriors.
