BROUMOV, a small town of north-east Bohemia, Czechoslo vakia, situated near the German frontier on the right bank of the Steine, has important historic associations as one of the two towns whose Protestant churches were closed by the Catholic Church authorities in 1618, from which resulted the violent expulsion of the ministers Martinis and Slavata which was the signal for the opening of the Thirty Years' War. The town now shares in the textile industries of north-east Bohemia and has a considerable trade. Like many of the towns along this frontier its population is predominantly German, while its natural outlet is the German town of Glatz.
