CAMBRIDGE, ADOLPHUS CHARLES, MARQUESS OF (1868-1927), elder brother of Queen Mary, was born at Kensing ton Palace, London, on Aug. 13, 1868, the son of the Duke of Teck and his wife Princess Mary of Cambridge, and died on Oct. 24, 1927. He was educated at Wellington college, and entered the 17th Lancers at the age of 19, being transferred in 1910 to the Ist Life Guards, of which he became lieutenant-colonel. The public service of the marquess of Cambridge was varied and strenuous. He served in the South African War, was military attache in Vienna (1904-09), and during the World War temporary assistant military secretary at the War Office and then military secretary to the Commander-in-chief in France. He had succeeded in 1900 to his father's title as duke of Teck, but in 1917 German titles in the British royal family were abandoned, and the duke was cre ated marquess of Cambridge. He married, in 1894, Lady Mar garet Grosvenor, daughter of the 1st duke of Westminster. He was succeeded in the marquessate by his elder son George Francis (born on Oct. II, 1895).
