CAHOKIA, the name of a North American Indian tribe of the Illinois confederacy, and of their mission station, near St. Louis. The "Cahokia mound" there (a model of which is in the Pea body Museum, Cambridge, Mass.) is interesting as the largest prehistoric earthwork in America (see NORTH AMERICA : Archaeology).
