CAMPODEA, a small whitish, wingless insect of the order Thysanura, sub-class Apterygota (q.v.) with long flexible anten nae, and a pair of elongated caudal filaments. The best known species (Campodea staphylinus) is widely distributed in Europe and North America where it occurs under stones and logs, or in rotting leaves and soil.
