CARNOUSTIE, police burgh and watering-place, Forfar shire, Scotland. Pop. (1931) 4,806. It lies on the North Sea, 1o4 m. E.N.E. of Dundee by the L. & N.E.R. Bathing and golf ing are good. Barry Links, a triangular sandy tract occupying the south-eastern corner of the shire, is used as a military camp ing and manoeuvring ground. Its extreme point is called Buddon Ness, off which are the dangerous shoals locally known as the Roaring Lion. On the ness two lighthouses have been built at different levels.
