CARORA, an inland town of the State of Lara, Venezuela, on the Carora, a branch of the Tocuyo river, about 45m. W. by S. of the city of Barquisimeto, and 1,128ft. above sea-level. Pop. (1926), 11,200. The town is comparatively well-built and posses ses a fine parish church, a Franciscan convent and hermitage. It was founded in 17S4, and its colonial history shows considerable prosperity, its population at that time numbering 9,00o to io,000. The neighbouring country is devoted principally to raising horses, mules and cattle ; and in addition to hides and leather, it exports coffee, rubber and other forest products.
