CARLI-RUBBI, GIOVANNI RINALDO, COUNT OF (1720-1795), Italian economist and antiquarian, was born at Capo d'Istria. At the age of 24 he was appointed professor of astronomy and navigation in the University of Padua, and en trusted with the superintendence of the Venetian marine. After filling these offices for seven years he resigned them in order to devote himself to the study of antiquities and political economy. Among his principal works are his Della origine et del com mercio della moneta, e della instituzione delle zecche d'Italia, pub lished in four parts between 1751 and 1759: his Ragionamento sopra i bilanci economisi delle nazioni (1759); his Sul libero commercio dei grani (1771 ) , and his Antichith I taliche (1771).
