CALCAR or KALCKER, JOHN DE (1499—c. 1546), Italian painter, was born at Calcar, in the duchy of Cleves, and died at Naples. He was a disciple of Titian at Venice, and perfected him self by studying Raphael. He imitated those masters so closely, especially in his portraits, as to deceive the most skilful critics.
