CARRODUS, JOHN TIPLADY English violinist, was born on Jan. 20, 1836, at Keighley, in Yorkshire. He made his first appearance as a violinist at the age of nine, and afterwards studied at Stuttgart with Molique. He made his debut as a solo player at a concert given by the Musical Society of London in 1863 and succeeded Sainton as leader at Covent Garden in 1869, acting in the same capacity also for the Philhar monic and other leading orchestras.
