CAMPBELL, LEWIS (183o-19o8), British classical scholar, was born at Edinburgh on Sept. 3, 1830, and died Oct. 25, 1908. He was fellow and tutor at Queen's college, Oxford vicar of Milford, Hants (1858-63), and professor of Greek and Gifford lecturer at the University of St. Andrews . In 1894 he was elected an honorary fellow of Balliol. As a scholar he is best known by his work on Sophocles (2nd ed. 18 79) and Plato (186 7) and his Life and Letters of B. Jowett
