CASUALTIES, in military use, the losses of a force in war by death, wounds, sickness, desertion or any other cause (from Lat. casus, that which falls out). The duty of dealing with all casualties from wounds or sickness falls to the medical services, the person nel of which treats each case from the moment of its occurrence to the eventual recovery or death of the patient.
