CEDARTOWN, a city of Georgia, U.S.A., 52m. west-north west of Atlanta, served by the Central of Georgia and the Seaboard Air Line railways; the county seat of Polk county. The popu lation in 1920 was negroes), and had increased to 8,124 in 193o by the Federal census. There are important min eral deposits in the vicinity, especially of iron, manganese, mar ble and slate. Hydro-electric power is available and the town has railroad shops, cotton mills, a tyre and rubber factory and various other manufacturing industries. It was incorporated as a city in 1898.
