CHAMFER, CHAMPFER or CHAUMFER, an archi tectural term for the cutting off of the edges of the corners of a beam, post or other similar form, and also the slanting surface so produced. Chamfers are frequently hollowed or moulded. When the chamfer does not run the full length of the member that it decorates, the shoulder, diagonal cut or moulding against which it stops is known as a stop chamfer.
