CHEROOT, a cigar made from tobacco grown in Southern India and the Philippine islands. The quality of cheroots varies a great deal, but a good example is esteemed for its delicate flavour. A cheroot differs from other cigars in having both ends cut square, instead of one being pointed, and one end considerably larger than the other. Cheroot, which is also sometimes spelled sheroot, is from the Tamil shuruttu, meaning a roll.
