CHERSIPHRON, a Cretan architect, the traditional builder (with his son Metagenes) of the great Ionic temple of Artemis at Ephesus in the 6th century B.C. Remains of this temple were found by J. T. Wood and brought to the British Museum. A fragmentary inscription supports the statement of Herodotus that the pillars were presented by King Croesus.
