CHICAGO AND NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY, a railroad which comprises 8,428.05m. of rail way located in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan (Northern Peninsula), Minnesota, South and North Dakota. It owned (1934) 1,682 locomotives, 1,892 passenger cars and 6o,o88 freight train cars. The balance sheet shows fixed property of $563,000,000, permanent assets of $80,000,000 more, total assets $676,000,000. Its capitalization consists of $180, of capital stock of which $22,395,000 is preferred. Its funded debt held by the public is $345,769,100. The appraisal of the railroad property by the Interstate Commerce Commission adjusted to Dec. 31, 1934, equals $653,576,992. It is one of the leading railroads of the North-west, serving the agricultural ter ritory tributary to the north and west of Chicago as well as large manufacturing districts and markets. Gross revenue for was $75,893,418.19 and net railway operating income of the same year was $5,202,104.56. It was the first railroad to operate into the present city of Chicago, commencing in Oct. 1848 and expanding from that date to its present proportions.
