CHILI or CHILES, the pods of several kinds of peppers, notanly the capsicum, used as condiment. In Mexico a dish of meat and beans, called chili con came, is highly flavoured with chili. Chiles are generally considered too "hot" for northern dishes, but in tropical countries they are used in many ways to flavour native dishes.
