COELLO, ANTONIO (1611-1652), Spanish dramatist and poet, was born at Madrid and entered the household of the duke of Albuquerque. His best known plays are El Conde de Sex, El Celoso extremeno (dramatizing one of Cervantes' Novelas Exemp lares) and Los Empenos de seis Boras. The latter was adapted by Samuel Tuke, under the title of The Adventures of five Hours, and was described by Pepys as superior to Othello.
