CHUB (Leuciscus cephalus), a Cyprinid fish distinguished from others of the family in English rivers by the broad head and strong jaws and by feeding to a considerable extent on little fish. In England a length of eft. and a weight of 8 lb. is reached, but on the Continent 12 lb. In America the name is applied to other large-headed Cyprinids, e.g., the river chub (Hybopsis kentuc kiensis) and the silver chub (Semotilus corporalis).
