CIEZA, a town of south-eastern Spain, in the province of Murcia, on the Madrid-Cartagena railway, and junction for a branch to Villena. Pop. (193o) 17,889. Cieza stands on the right bank of the river Segura, in a narrow bend of the valley, which is enclosed on the north by mountains, providing good building stone and low timber, and on the south broadens into a fertile plain, pro ducing grain, wine, olives, raisins, esparto, oranges and other fruits. The district has greatly developed with improved communications in the last 5o years and Cieza is a flourishing modern town with flour, paper, sawmilling industries and brandy distilleries.
