CLARINDA, a city of south-western Iowa, U.S.A., on the Nodaway river, Federal highway 71, and the Burlington (railway) route; the county seat of Page county. The population in 193o (Federal census) was 4,962. It has a variety of manufacturing in dustries and a large wholesale trade in poultry, butter and eggs, and seed. A State hospital for the insane, with a capacity for 1,200 patients, is here. Clarinda was settled about 1853 and incorporated in 1866.
