COBALT, a mining town on Cobalt lake, Timiskaming, northern Ontario, Canada, 330m. N. of Toronto, on the Temis kaming and Northern Ontario railways. Unknown till 1903, it is now the centre of one of the richest silver districts in the world. The region also produces cobalt, arsenic and nickel in large quan tities. Pop. (1931) 3,885.
