COGNE, a village, province of Aosta, Italy, from which town it is 16m. due south by road (9m. direct). Pop. (1921) 575 (of commune, 1,625). It lies at the northern foot of the Gran Para diso and is a favourite summer resort. Victor Emanuel II. formed a shooting reserve here for wild goat and chamois. The important iron mines belonging to the Ansaldo company lie east of the village, and a newly installed electric plant dealt with 5,800 tons of pig iron in 1925.
