CONVENTION, THE NATIONAL, in France, the con stitutional and legislative assembly which sat from Sept. 20, 1792 to Oct. 26, 1795 (the 4th of Brumaire of the year IV.). It was the first French assembly elected by universal suffrage, without distinctions of class.
