COWDENBEATH, police burgh, Fifeshire, Scotland, 54 m. N.E. of Dunfermline by the L.N.E.R. Pop. (1931) 12,731. The principal industry is coal-mining, and the town is rapidly growing. Meetings in connection with the adoption and pro mulgation of the Covenant were held in the old parish church of Beath. It is included with Dunfermline, Inverkeithing and Lochgelly in the Dunfermline group of burghs, returning one member to parliament.
