CRESTON, a city of Iowa, U.S.A., 6om. S.W. of Des Moines, at an altitude of 1,31oft., on the crest of the watershed between the Mississippi and the Missouri basins; the county seat of Union county. It is on Federal highway 34, and is served by the Burlington railway. The population in 1930 (Federal census) was 8,615. It is a shipping and trading point for a rich farming and stock-raising region. The town was founded in 1869, when the railroad selected this as the site for its shops. It was chartered as a city in 1871.
