CRICCIETH, a watering-place and contributory parliamen tary borough of Carnarvonshire, Wales, on Cardigan bay, served by the G.W.R. Pop. of urban district (1931) 1,449. The ruined castle, perched on a green hill projecting into the sea, was re paired in the time of Edward I. ; portions of two towers are on the verge of the rock, and a double fosse and vallum, with the outer and inner court lines, can be traced. The view includes a wide sweep of Cardigan bay, backed by the Lleyn peninsula and the Merionethshire hills, with Harlech castle on the margin of the bay. Criccieth forms a good centre for excursions and offers facilities for sea-bathing.
