CROCODILE-BIRD (Pluvianus aegyptus), a species of plover (q.v.) which derives its name from its frequent association with the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) from the teeth and hide of which it picks and devours parasites. It is also of service to the crocodile by uttering warning cries on the approach of danger.
