CUSTOZZA, a village of Italy, I r m. S.W. of Verona, famous as the scene of two battles between the Austrians and the Italians in the struggle for Italian unity. The first battle of Custozza was fought in 1848, the Austrians being victorious. The second battle was fought in 1866, and resulted in the victory of the Austrians. (See ITALIAN WARS, 1848-70.)
