CURTIUS, ERNST ROBERT (1886— ), German scholar, was born at Thann, Alsace, on April 4, 1886. From 1913 19 he taught at the University of Bonn, from 192o-24 at Mar burg, and in 1924 was appointed professor of French history and romance philology at Heidelberg.
