CREMIEUX, ISAAC MOISE ("ADOLPHE") (1796-1880), French lawyer and politician, was born of Jewish parents at Nimes on April 3o, 1796, and died in Paris on Feb. Io, 1880. After practising at the bar of his native city, he went to Paris in 183o, and from that time played a considerable part in politics. He was minister of justice in the provisional revolutionary gov ernment of 1848 and in that of 187o-71. As minister of justice in 187o-71 he secured the franchise for the Jews in Algeria by a decree known as the Decret Cremieux. Cremieux was president of the Universal Israelite Alliance. He published a Recueil of his political cases (1869).
