CUMMING, JOSEPH GEORGE English geologist and archaeologist, was born at Matlock, Derbyshire, on Feb. 15, 1812. He was educated at Oakham grammar school and Emmanuel college, Cambridge. From 1841 to 1856 he was vice principal of King William's college, Castletown, Isle of Man. He wrote The Isle of Man; its History, Physical, Ecclesiastical, Civil and Legendary (1848). He was vicar of St. John's, Bethnal Green, London, at the time of his death on Sept. 21, 1868.
