CUNIBERT, SAINT (c. 590-663), bishop of Cologne, was educated at Treves, where he became archdeacon. Af ter becoming bishop of Cologne in 623, he assisted at the synods of Reims (625) and of Clichy (626). At the court of the Merovingians, especially under Sigebert III. (d. 656), he exercised great political influence. He encouraged missions to the Frisians.
