DUMONT, ANDRE HUBERT (18o9-1857), Belgian geologist, was born at Liege on Feb. 15, 1809. He was professor of mineralogy and geology and afterwards rector in the university of Liege. He spent 20 years on the preparation of a geological map of Belgium (1849), and then collected materials for a geological map of Europe. The Geological Society of London awarded him the Wollaston medal in 1840, and he died at Liege on Feb. 23, 185 7.
