DRYOPITHECUS (dri-o-pith'e-kus), a genus of fossil An thropoids which inhabited Europe, North Africa and North India in the Miocene. Seven species have been described and these, with four allied genera from the Siwalik formation of India, are be lieved to represent the ancestral stock of the anthropoids.
