DUET, a term in music for a composition for two perform ers, either vocal or instrumental, in which the two parts are of more or less equal importance. Thus a piece for a violin and piano in which the latter provides merely an accompaniment is not properly called a duet. Duo is a term having the same meaning though usually applied to instrumental duets only.
