DUNGARVAN, a market town and seaport of Co. Water ford, Ireland, 282 m. W.S.W. from Waterford by rail. Pop. of urban district (1926), 5,202. It is situated on the Bay of Dun garvan, at the mouth of the Colligan, which divides the town into two parts. Dungarvan was incorporated in the 15th century. Under John, walls were built, also a castle, of which there are still remains in the town. The eastern suburb is called Abbeyside, where remains of an ancient keep, erected by the M'Graths, still exist, together with portions of an Augustinian friary, founded by the same family in the 14th century and incorporated with a Roman Catholic chapel. Brewing is carried on and there are wool len mills. Trade is in agricultural produce.
