EASTLAND, a city of Texas, U.S.A., 9om. W. by S. of Fort Worth; the county seat of Eastland county. It is on Federal highway 8o, and is served by the Eastland, Wichita Falls and Gulf and the Texas and Pacific railways. In 191 o the population was 855 ; in 192o, at the height of the oil boom, 9,368; but in 193o had fallen to 4,648 by the Federal census. It is the trade centre of a farming, stock-raising and oil-producing region, and ships large quantities of grain, cotton, fruits, pecans and live stock. Numerous oil pools and large gas fields were discovered in 1927.
