EBONITE, a substance manufactured by over-vulcanizing rubber. Pure rubber is mixed with about 4o of sulphur by rolling, and the resulting mass heated for from six to ten hours at a temperature of 15o°. The valuable material thus obtained is a non-conductor of electricity and resists many chemical re agents. (See RUBBER : PRODUCTION AND MANUFACTURE.)
